The Department for Urban Marketing and Branding this morning outlawed the use of graphics to represent companies and other organisations.
Speculation is already rife that removal of the controversial 2012 Olympic logo was secretly the main objective. If this is the case, it’s a shame. We believe that history will record that the London games was a great force for good and that the identity hit the spot. Only time will tell.
Meanwhile there are fears that some jobs in the industry may now be lost following the announcement. But Designation staff should be safe since we hold that a brand is not a logo™ and that companies have many touchpoints with which to communicate their values.
